Ophthalmic Coding Specialist Exam

Ophthalmic Coding Specialist Exam

The Ophthalmic Coding Specialist online exam is a 100-question, multiple-choice assessment that covers all aspects of coding for ophthalmology. Participants who successfully pass the open-book exam can use the designation "OCS" after their name.

Those who pass before Oct. 1, 2018 will have their name appear on scrolling slides shown at AAO 2018 in Chicago.

How the OCS Exam Works

Complete the open-book exam within 10 business days. Each exam includes one attempt, to be completed within 10 business days after beginning the exam. Each additional attempt requires you to re-purchase the test.

Get your score immediately. You will receive a pass or fail grade upon submitting your exam. You must answer 80 percent correctly to pass. When you pass, you will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Get a performance breakdown. Regardless of your score, you will learn in which content areas you had one or more incorrect answers to help you identify areas of improvement.

Retest every three years. After you pass the OCS exam, you must retake it every three years to retain your designation. CEUs are not required for maintenance.
